ESCAPE ROOM IN AMSTERDAM

Quick Details

Boom Chicago Escape Room in Amsterdam

We’re proud to announce our latest thrilling escape room adventure: Escape Through the Movies! You and your group have to work together to discover clues, solve puzzles, and race towards the exciting finale.

Exactly 100 years ago, the Rozentheater was Amsterdam’s first megabioscoop, a 1000-seat movie palace with two balconies and a state-of-the-art projection booth. During the Roaring 20s and beyond, the people of de Jordaan sat spellbound in their seats while the mighty projector shined fantasy on the silver screen.

Today, the Rozentheater is a popular venue with theaters, a bar, and of course, the Boom Chicago comedy show. Although no longer a cinema, the old projection booth still exists. Your journey begins in the projection booth, where you start the projector and enter the movies. Can you escape your journey through the movies?

Escape Through the Movies, Boom Chicago’s fifth escape room, is our best yet. Artistic Director Andrew Moskos leads a team that provides story, design, decor, actors, props, music, video, tech, hardware, and software. Puzzles are designed by Pep Rosenfeld, the best in the business.

  • Chevron down Your Mission
  • Sure, you have watched plenty of movies, but have you ever been inside the movies?

One hundred years ago, the Rozentheater was Amsterdam’s first movie palace. Your journey takes you into the original operator’s booth to start the projector and enter the movies!

“It is too complicated to explain here, but let me just say that movies are real, and they need to be kept separate from this world!” – M

Travel through the movies, find the one, and save mankind!

The story begins 30 minutes before mission time in the café. Ask the bartender for the envelope when you arrive. Once you are ready, you are guided to the first floor and into the projection booth, where your journey begins.

  • Chevron down FAQ
  • How long does the experience go for?

The story begins 30 minutes before mission time in the café. Work together on the warm-up challenges to limber you up mentally and prepare for the mission.

The mission takes 75 minutes, and everybody reaches the thrilling finale. With a team drink afterwards (not included), the entire experience takes two hours.

What is the maximum group size?

The maximum group size is five people, and the mission can be completed by groups of two people minimum. You are never paired with strangers.

Does it matter if we are late?

Yes, it does. We need you to arrive on time. If you are not on time, we may be forced to cut out parts of the experience or cancel the booking altogether.

What do we do when we arrive at the Boom Chicago bar?

Present yourself to the Boom Chicago host or the bar staff as soon as you arrive.

Can I just pop by and play without a booking?

Eventually we will be set up to take bookings up to two hours in advance, but currently we require 24 hours to prepare for bookings. If you are eager to play, it can’t hurt to ask and we will see what we can accommodate. Send an email to [email protected] or call the reservations team at +31 (0)20 217 0400.

Are there any requirements to play?

The escape room contains strobe lighting. Please advise us if you have epilepsy or suffer adverse effects. We are able to leave it out if necessary.

Walking up and down stairs across multiple levels is required to play the escape room. The escape room contains special effects that could give you a little fright. If you are pregnant, please advise us of your limitations.

For more information, send an email to [email protected]

Those who are impaired by alcohol (or drugs), disrespectful, or just plain assholes will be removed from the game with no refunds. Sorry, but you may not bring in phones, tablets, or computers. We have lockers for your belongings and expect no issues. Like a coat check, however, we are not responsible for these items.

Is English required to enjoy the escape room?

A good command of English is required to enjoy all of the puzzles and theatrical elements of the escape room. At least one person in the team should be able to communicate in English.

Can I bring extra people to play?

Yes. However, the maximum limit of five players per team still applies. The price difference needs to be paid in advance. Please call us as soon as possible if you have extra players.

    Is there an age restriction?

You know your children. While obviously not suited for small children, mature 11 or 12-year-olds and upwards might enjoy it. If they command a healthy sense of adventure and don’t mind being a little scared, they might have a great time — under the supervision of an adult, of course. It is a great experience to have together as a family!

I am planning a large group/company outing… What are the possibilities?

A new group can enter every 30 minutes, and we can accommodate 10 people per hour (two teams). We have great team activities and packages for 30, 50, or more.

Send an email to [email protected] with the possible dates, number of people, and amount of time you have and we will prepare the best layout for your group.

Can I combine the escape room with the Boom Chicago comedy shows?

Why not combine Escape Through the Movies with the Boom Chicago comedy show? The following times will get you out in time to see the Boom Chicago show:

Wednesday – Sunday: 15:30, 16:30, 17:30, and 18:30 will get you out in time for some snacks and drinks before the show*

*Note that dinner and snacks are not included. They can be ordered separately through [email protected]

After the Boom Chicago show, Escape Through the Movies has a slot at 22:30

Is it possible to cancel or reschedule my booking?

No cancellations or refunds are allowed once a session is booked. However, you are able to reschedule free of charge three days in advance. For shorter notice, additional charges may apply. Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to reschedule.

    Is the escape room scary?

Yes. There are elements in the escape room that are designed to give you a little fright or scare. If you are pregnant, have a pre-existing heart condition, nervous condition, or a condition/personality that could be impacted by these elements, please get in contact with the office before your game: [email protected].

Some of these elements can be taken out of the game but might impact your overall enjoyment. The effects could be described as elements you would find in a haunted house-style experience, but they are aimed at the enjoyment of the average person.

How can we compare ourselves to other teams?

For the competitive groups, points are awarded and you can compare yourself to everybody before you.
