LIFE IS BETTER WHEN YOU LAUGH

Comedy shows

MIDDLEDITCH AND SCHWARTZ

A completely improvised two person show. Are you missing your improv fix while social distancing? All of us at Boom Chicago can safely say that we are… But worry not, for Netflix is coming to the rescue. On April 21st the streaming service is releasing three improvised specials from Thomas Middleditch and Ben Schwartz, entitled…

RUSSELL HOWARD

British Superstar Stand Up Russel Howard plays AFAS Live on 21 March. The hardworking UK comedian is known for his panel show appearances on Mock the Week (Think Dit was het Nieuws) and many shows that bear his name like The Russel Howard Comedy Hour.   On the stand up side he holds a number of impressive records like when…

DAVE CHAPPELLE

Dave Chappelle, one of the top comedians right now, will play the Ziggo Dome Saturday and there are still tickets left! There is still a chance to see Chappelle’s famous fusion style of honest and grounded sentiment, with a heavy-handed dash of provocation. Creator of Comedy Central’s Chappelle Show, and then walking away from the fame it gave him for years, he is well known for touching on sensitive subject matter…however, ‘grabbing’, ‘yanking’ or ‘pulling’ may be better words to describe how he approaches such subjects. While Chappelle’s style of humor is not likely to breed a feeling of warmth and acceptance within the audience, and his fame makes it impossible for the angry left to cancel him, it is guaranteed to have you thinking twice about daily habits and societal norms we so often take for granted. And you…

JACK TUCKER

This is a show for real comedy aficionados. Jack Tucker is a lousy, hack, charmless New York comedian.  He’s also the creation of Zach Zucker, half of the critically acclaimed clown duo Zach and Viggo, who run the equally acclaimed Stamptown Comedy Night. Part deconstruction of the tropes and tricks of hack stand-up, part glimpse into a damaged,…

TOMMY TIERNAN

Tommy Tiernan is, put simply, a legend of stand-up comedy, and he’s coming to Boom Chicago in April 2020.  Winning the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny? stand-up competition in 1996, just two years later he won one of the biggest, if not the biggest, prizes in comedy, the Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Show. As well as hosting…

RANDY FELTFACE

Boom Chicago welcomes Randy Feltface on November 18th – if you don’t know him now, you will soon remember his face – mainly because it’s purple. Feltface is the beautifully realized alter ego of Australian comic and puppeteer Heath McIvor.  He’s been performing internationally for over 10 years, and in 2016 he received great acclaim…

STACEY SMITH JOINS THE BOOM CHICAGO CAST

I met Boom Chicago’s newest cast member, Stacey Smith, about a year ago when we brought her in to give the then cast a workshop in musical improv comedy. At the time, the cast and I were in a brutal show process. We were meeting every day from 11:00am to about 3:00am to write and rehearse a new show, perform and stay late for notes nearly every day. The last thing we wanted to do was a musical improv workshop (or anything requiring the least bit of extra energy). I can only imagine what Stacey was thinking when she laid eyes on us. Nevertheless she persisted. And, really, she didn’t even skip a beat. We were immediately swept up in the Stacejam (title of her one woman improvised musical that will blow your mind). Within minutes we were all cracking up and belting out hilarity at…

JOHN CLEESE: LAST TIME TO SEE ME BEFORE I DIE

John Cleese’s (final?) solo tour comes  to Carre on April 18, with later stops in Enschede and Zwolle. Zwolle eh? Who knew! Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday in what is humorously called the ‘Last Chance to See Me Before I Die Tour.’ He’s probably right. Don’t miss the opportunity to…
