Actor, comedian and writer. Despite his very Dutch name, is actually from San Francisco, California.
Karel received his BA in Theater from UCLA, where he was apart of the comedy sketch troupe, Company. With Company he wrote and performed sketches in sold-out stadiums and to eclectic celebrities like Lionel Richie, MC Hammer, and a bunch of actors from Teen Wolf who the audience went crazy over, but Karel had no idea who they were.
Karel has performed and taught improv for a while with the Upright Citizens Brigade and has performed in multiple comedy festivals from the New York Del Close Marathon to SF Sketchfest to many more.
You might say Boom Chicago is a fantastic learning ground for improv and that Karel feels like the prettiest girl at the dance being given the opportunity to do what he loves and grow as a performer, but the world knows that Boom Chicago is simply using Karel to grow as a theater. Without Boom Chicago Karel would be nothing (but we all know it’s the other way around.) Thank you, Boom Chicago, or should I say, you’re welcome.
