THE MADNESS OF KING DONALD
It’s always good to welcome an alumni back to Boom Chicago, and none are more welcome than the US born, Netherlands based Greg Shapiro.
Greg has been a familiar face to Dutch audiences over the years. One of the original cast members of Boom Chicago 25 years ago, Greg was the host of Comedy Central News and is a frequent guest on Dutch TV and radio.
However, he is probably best known for his work impersonating and satirizing US president Donald Trump. On the popular Dutch satirical TV show Zondag met Lubach, Greg provided the voice of Trump for the “America First, Netherlands Second” video. It quickly went viral and has been watched by over 50 million people.
Since then he’s made it his business to get inside the orange skin and the warped mind of the 45th President of the USA. In 2016, he and fellow Boom Chicago’s Pep Rosenfeld premiered their show Trump up the Volume
at Boom Chicago… and 3 years later it is still being performed and is as popular as ever.
This year he has been touring his most recent show – The Madness of King Donald: A Trump Survival Guide – around the Netherlands to delighted audiences. And due to the popularity of the show, his tour has been extended, and we’re excited to welcome him back to Boom Chicago.
Directed by Michael Diederich (fellow Boom Chicago alumnus and one of the stars of RTL4’s All Together Now), The Madness of King Donald combines stand-up and improv in a show that is constantly updating and evolving in response to each new week of crazy Donald Trump developments. And with the spectre of impeachment looming larger, it feels like the perfect time to catch one of the Netherlands’ finest satirist.
